Episode 19 – Cashing in on Creativity with Bruce Outridge

In Episode 19, Mark interviews Bruce Outridge, an artist, speaker, podcaster, television host, cartoonist, columnist, consultant and coach.

The podcast features a fifteen minute interview with Bruce as well as a couple of short clips from his Cashing in on Creativity podcast which has a format that is as fun and unique as Bruce himself.

The interview took place at a Hamilton, Ontario bar called The Ship. So you’ll hear the ambient noise of music and chatter in the background. Mark and Bruce had initially connected while discussing their mutual love of craft beer and so selected this place to meet and record their mutual podcast interviews.

Prior to the interview, Mark gives a personal update on the status of his recent completion of the Waterloo half-marathon as well as an update on the views for the videos of his recent Free Friday Frights weekly readings/talks.

In the Terrible Tongue Twister segment, Mark has a go at the following tongue twister . . .

“I’m not the pheasant plucker, I’m the pheasant plucker’s mate,

And I’m only plucking pheasants ’cause the pheasant plucker’s late.

I’m not the pheasant plucker, I’m the pheasant pluckers son,

And I’m only plucking pheasants till the pheasant pluckers come.”

(Needless to say, there is bleeping involved)

The Terrible Tongue Twister segment (AKA “Twisting by the Fool”) is sponsored by Findaway Voices, who provide all the tools that an independent author or small publisher needs in order to get into the digital audiobook market.

In their interview, Bruce and Mark discuss:

Mark then plays a couple of short clips from two of Bruce’s recent podcast episodes that he found inspiring.

After the interviews and shared clips from Bruce’s podcst, Mark shares a reflection about the networking that led him and Bruce to connecting and talks about that element which Bruce started off the interview discussing (and which is mentioned by Ann Brown in an episode of Bruce’s own podcast) – being open to opportunity and authentic connections with others.

He shares an additional example of connecting with fellow author Julie Strauss, his enjoyment and learnings from reading her novels and blog articles and the benefits to his writing and personal life that came from a few chance encounters that a friendship grew out of.
